Bonn, Germany – June 2025: While the world watches for solutions to the global climate crisis, Vanuatu is once again stepping forward to ensure that the voices of vulnerable communities—especially those in remote islands—are heard loud and clear, and lobbying donors to allocate new climate money that will help Vanuatu’s villages address the worsening impacts.
First National State of the Environment Report Launched
The first Vanuatu National State of the Environment (SOE) Report has been officially launched on Tuesday this week by the Minister of Climate Change, John Salong, alongside Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Mr Sefanaia Nawadra.

The Minister of Climate Change and Energy, Honourable John Salong has called upon all government officials, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and international partners to work together in implementing the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and the Vehicle Emissions Standards projects.
MoCCA Introduces First Electric Vehicles Into Government Fleet
The Ministry of Climate Change Adaptation (MoCCA) has become the first Government agency to purchase and use Electric Vehicles (EVs). The Ministry has bought two EVs to begin implementation of the National Energy Road Map (NERM) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets of having 10% of EV’s in the Government vehicle fleet by 2030. The Public Service Commission (PSC), the manager of the Government vehicle fleet, has approved this purchase as a pilot and will be monitoring the EVs performance against its current fuel-using vehicles to quantify the fuel budget savings that EVs can bring, among other considerations.
Vanuatu Requests IRENA for Support Towards Green Building Initiative
One of the bilaterial meetings that the Director of Energy, Antony Garae, had at the 14th Session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi from April 16 to 18, was with the Director General of IRENA, Mr Francesco La Camera.
Aneityum Sets Aside 6,031 Hectares as Community ‘Tabu’ Area
Aneityum island in TAFEA Province has set aside a total of 6,031 hectares of land mainly in the uninhabited interior areas of the central part of the island as a community ‘tabu’ area.
