Who We Are
The Ministry of Climate Change Adaptation, Meteorology and Geo-Hazards, Energy, Environment and National Disaster Management is the youngest Ministry in the Vanuatu Government.
Its creation in 2014 was for the purpose of strategically aligning Departments responsible for the response to natural disasters and sustainable development of the environment.
This Ministry comprises of five departments:
- Department of Climate Change
- Department of Meteorology & Geo-Hazards
- Department of Energy
- Department of Environmental Protection & Conservation
- Department of National Disaster Management
Corporate Services
The Corporate Services Unit (CSU) of the Ministry of Climate Change Adaptation, Meteorology and Geo-Hazards, Energy, Environment and National Disaster Management provides consolidated services and support to the Cabinet and departments under the Ministry.
Under the leadership of the Director General, the CSU of the Ministry is guided by a vision of promoting a resilient, sustainable, safe and informed Vanuatu. This is based on a mission of developing sound policies and legislative frameworks and provide timely, reliable scientific information for service delivery to enable resilient communities, a sustainable environment and economic development.
Administration
The administration section is an important part of the Ministry that does more than just facilitating the flow of information in and out of the Ministry.
It also controls the housekeeping section that ensures the offices are clean and there are sufficient stationery supplies as well as maintain filing, transportation and organize meetings.
Finance
The Ministry of Climate Change and Adaptation’s CSU has a Finance Manager that is responsible for all issues relating to finance.
The Ministry’s core funding comes from the national Treasury, through appropriation by the Parliament of the Republic of Vanuatu.
But majority of the projects implemented under the Ministry receive funding from partners under different projects within each department under bilateral and multilateral arrangements.
