North Tanna Conservation Areas Management Plan Launched
The Minister of Climate Change and Environmental Protection, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu, led a delegation to Launalang area in the northern part of Tanna island February 28, 2024, with Member of Parliament for Tanna, Andrew Napuat, to officially launch the Nusumetu and Tipinime Management Plan.
The management plan was jointly drafted and developed by the government, through the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation, with the community members of Naka in North Tanna.
Nusumetu and Tipinime are Community Conservation Areas that are managed by communities in the Naka area.
Before officially launching and handing over the management plans, Hon. Ralph Regenvanu, who is the minister responsible for Environmental Protection, told the Naka community that community conservation areas established and managed by communities has been recognised, not only nationally, but also globally, as the most effective way for the conservation of biodiversity.
The Hon. Minister assured that the Government will support the community to manage the conservation areas, under the leadership of the Community Management Committee.
The Management Plan comes in as provided under the Environmental Protection and Conservation Act, which is administered under the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation.
The TAFEA Provincial Government has also been given a copy of the registration certificate for the Nusumetu and Tipinime conservation sites.
