Announcement of National Solid Waste Summit
The Government, through the Ministry of Climate Change and the Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation, will host and facilitate a National Solid Waste Summit on January 24, 2024, which is Wednesday next week.
This Solid Wast Summit will address all rubbish and waste, but not including air pollution and wastewater/sewage.
In 2024, the Government wishes to mainstream, starting in Port Vila and Efate:
- Waste separation – separation of waste in 5 categories of glass, metal, paper and cardboard, plastic and compost.
- Recycling, and
- A Container Deposit Scheme that will apply to all beverage containers.
A meeting of all stakeholders already working in this area will be held at The Melanesian on the 24th January starting at 8am
